Problem statement
Originally launched more than a decade ago, the original website had evolved through a series of bolt-on additions, creating a fragmented experience for customers and internal teams. Meanwhile, the business had continued to grow and strengthen its position as one of the UK’s leading premium wine distributors.
Our brief was to:
- Create a modern, industry-leading platform that better reflected the quality of the Hallgarten & Novum Wines brand.
- Simplify the customer journey across storytelling content, product discovery and online ordering.
- Improve product and producer discovery to support engagement and sales growth.
- Give internal teams greater flexibility and control over content management.
The website also needed to integrate with external systems including Bevica CRM, support downloadable trade assets, and work seamlessly across desktop, tablet and mobile, creating a scalable digital experience designed to modernise Hallgarten’s online presence and support the next stage of growth.

Discover kickoff
Align with the team to finalise the project brief, confirm stakeholders and third parties, and define clear success criteria.

Discover
Conduct technical, audience profiling, and site structure workshops, along with API mapping in collaboration with BEVICA (TVison team).

Define
Create detailed technical documentation and define a comprehensive project timeline covering tasks, dependencies, ownership, durations, milestones, and deadlines.

Design
Execute UX and UI design, including wireframing and final interface design using Figma.

Develop
Set up hosting and development environments on Umbraco Cloud, execute iterative sprint cycles (1–5), and build core platform features.

Develop QA
Conduct functional, regression, performance, and load testing while managing bug tracking, reporting, and resolution cycles.

Deploy
Execute CI/CD pipelines and manage releases, perform data migration and integration checks, and complete final post-deployment validation.

Deliver
Provide ongoing maintenance and performance monitoring, deliver continuous improvements and updates, and handle user support and queries.
What we did
We created a digital experience that strengthened Hallgarten’s visual identity,surfaced producer stories, and made wine discovery simpler, faster, and more inspiring across desktop, tablet, and mobile.
